Our speaker for September will be Galaxy member Darleen Bailey Beard, an award-winning author of eight children's books published by Simon & Schuster, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, and Rourke Media.
Darleen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing from the University of Oklahoma. She has conducted hundreds of school author visits, festivals, and conferences across the United States.
For more than 30 years, she hosted the Oklahoma Children’s Authors & Illustrators book panel at the State Department of Education’s "Encyclo-Media Conference." Currently, she is writing a micro-memoir and has been an author-in-residence for the past five years, teaching hands-on writing workshops for the Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy.
In her presentation, she will discuss writing micro-memoirs. Her motto is to keep writing, editing, and submitting because you’ll never make a sale if your manuscript is sitting in a drawer.
Darleen lives in Norman with her husband, David. They have three children, four grandchildren, and a dog named Django, who thinks he’s human.
